Orient Express Lines's 20th Anniversary and Award Presentation

Lloyd's AwardSULTAN Ahmed bin Sulayem, chairman of Dubai World, was last night recognised with the Lifetime Achievement Award at the Lloyd¹s List Middle East/Indian Subcontinent Awards 2006 ceremony in Dubai.

The award to Sultan bin Sulayem reflected vision and leadership on the international business stage, guests to the glittering event at the Madinat Jumeirah were told.

His achievements included leading the largest acquisition in the industry¹s history, developing a free trade zone and signposting the way for industrial development in the region, his involvement in real estate and tourism and, among other activities, in establishing a commodities marketplace.

The award to Sultan bin Sulayem was one of a number made during the evening where nearly 600 people gathered to pay tribute to dynamism, commitment and
outstanding performance in the maritime industries.

Yudhishthir Khatau, managing director of Varun Shipping Company and president of The Indian National Shipowners¹ Association was recognised as Personality of the Year. As with the Lifetime Achievement award, this was judged solely by senior executives at Lloyd¹s List.

Elsewhere, Essar Shipping beat off fierce challenges from and International Tanker Management Holding and Kuwait Oil Tanker Co to win the Tanker Operator Award while Lloyd¹s Register scooped the Classification Society Award ahead of DNV and the Indian Register of Shipping.

GAC Shipping pipped Sharaf Shipping Agency and Transworld Group of Companies to the Shipping Agent Award, GAC Logistics took the Transport: Logistics:
Freight Award ahead of United Arab Shipping Co and Charter Trade Global and Dubai Drydocks won the Shiprepair/Shipyard Award, with Nico International
and Zamil Shipbuilding & Shiprepair Co in second and third places.

The Shipmanager Award went to Paul Hayward of Pentagon Freight Services, ahead of National Iranian Tanker Company and Orient Express Ship Management
and Tolani Maritime Training Institute beat the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, UAE Branch and Fleet management Training Institute to land the Maritime Training and Development Award.

Mundra Port & Special Economic Zone was recognised for the Port Authority Award, with Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Jeddah Islamic Port Authority in
second and third slots and Orient Express Lines beat off challenges from The National Shipping Company of Saudi Arabia and United Arab Shipping Co to
scoop the Shipowner/Operator Award.

DP World was honoured in the Container Terminal Operator category ahead of Aqaba Container Terminal and Pakistan International Container Terminal and
the Marine Insurance Award went to Oriental Insurance Co with AXA Gulf and General Insurance Corporation of India in second and third places.

Essar Shipping picked up its second award of the evening, for Bulk Operator, ahead of Emirates Trading Agency and Emarat Maritime and the Energy Award:
Oil and Gas, went to Lamprell Energy, with Reliance Industries and Emirates National Oil Co in the runners-up positions.

Bank Muscat SAOG was recognised in the Trade Finance category ahead of National Bank of Fujairah and National Bank of Oman.
